Zacuto Revenge of The Great Camera Shootout 2012 – Camera Battle

Zacuto Revenge UPDATE: SEE THE RESULTS HERE (Part 2)

Zacuto run a yearly shootout of the latest cameras to show others the capability and performance, the Zacuto Revenge of the Great Camera Shootout. Its always a great test because it uses the same scenario for each camera so its essay to compare the differences side by side. The cameras are also not labelled on screen so its up to you to decide which camera you like best when watching the video.

To watch the free video please click the photo above or click here to take you to the Zacuto page.

If you have a few minutes take a look at the inspiring video link above and jot down which camera you think is which. The results will be released in the part two video later this summer, so keep these notes safe. They set the scene up so to have the widest dynamic range so this is where the DSLR footage may separate from the higher end camera’s like the Alexa or Epic.
Here is a list of the cameras and the cinematographer used in the video:

1. Sony F65 — Sony Representatives
2. ARRI Alexa — Rodney Charters, ASC
3. RED Epic — Ryan Walters
4. Sony FS100 — Den Lennie & Mick Jones
5. Sony F3 w/slog — Nancy Schreiber, ASC
6. Canon C300 — Polly Morgan
7. Canon 7D with Technicolor settings — Michael Negrin, ASC
8. Panasonic GH2 (Quantum v9b Hack) — Jonny Zeller & Colt Seman
9. Apple iPhone 4s — Michael Koerbel

I will not be saying anything about the results because I think its best to make your own opinion on it. Unfortunately there is no way to download the full res test, which is pretty annoying, so the compressed Vimeo video above will have to do for the comparison. However it may be of some help to filmmakers out there to see that there is not much between the cameras, especially when viewing it online. If you are making movies for the internet it goes to show that in the right hands it doesnt really matter what the camera you use.

We have a new Facebook commenting section below now, so let us know which camera you thought was which.
